Niskayun a- Clare F. Beames, III died at home Monday, February 1, 2016, following a brief illness. Born in Buffalo, raised in White Plains, he had been a resident of Niskayuna since 1976. Clare graduated from the University of Maine with a Bachelors of Science degree. Following graduation he entered the Army and served on continuous active duty for the next 24 years. He retired in the grade of Lieutenant Colonel. He was an Army aviator qualified to fly both fixed wing and rotary wing aircraft. Military awards include the Master Army Aviator and Combat Infantry badges; the Purple Heart; Legion of Merit and 10 other decorations. In addition to numerous service schools, Clare also attended the University of Southern California and was awarded a Masters degree in Management. After retirement from the Army, Clare worked for the South Colonie School District for 17 years. He was the Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds, responsible for the maintenance of the facilities and the supervision of new construction. Clare headed a staff of 70 highly qualified mechanics and custodial personnel. Clare was an avid golfer and a member of the Edison Club since 1977. He was also an enthusiastic duplicate bridge player who achieved the national ranking of Silver Life Master. Clare was predeceased by Marilyn, his wife of 57 years. He is survived by his son Clare F. Beames, IV , granddaughters, Rachael Beames and Sara Beames all of Hampton, VA. He is also survived by brothers Thomas E. Dumfries of VA and Dwight William of Miami FL. Funeral Service Friday, 10:30 at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
