Schenectady - William J. Smith, Jr., 49, died Thursday, December 15, 2016, at Ellis Hospital, after a courageous battle with cancer. Billy was born in Niskayuna on September 6, 1967, the beloved son of William J. and Mary Jane Osterhout Smith, Sr. He had attended Mont Pleasant High School and had worked for the Schenectady Public School District, for many years. He loved sports in his youth, playing baseball with the J.C. Little League, later he enjoyed coaching for the Bellevue Little League and for Pop Warner football. He is survived by his daughter, Kaleena Taylor Smith; his father and mother, William J. and Mary Jane Smith, Sr.; six siblings, Colleen (John) Gulli, Kathleen (Keith) Culpepper, Billie Jo Smith, Joseph, Daniel and Timothy (Terri) Smith. He was predeceased by his brother, Patrick Smith; and survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Funeral service, Tuesday morning, 10 a.m., St. Luke's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial be celebrated. Calling hours, Monday evening, 5 to 8 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Church Food Pantry, 1241 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304
