Obituary of Mary Laganis

On Thursday, January 12, 2017, Mary Elizabeth Janetos Laganis, peacefully passed away at the age of 92. Born in Wallaceburg, Ontario, Canada, she moved to Detroit, Michigan, to marry Deno, her beloved husband of 39 years, who predeceased her. They then moved to Schenectady, NY, where she happily resided for over 50 years. She worked as an Administrative Assistant at the Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory. Mary was a great lover of her extended family and her Greek heritage, and was an active member of her Church, Philoptochos Society, and sang in the choir for 50 years. Mary will always be remembered for her wonderful Greek pastries and bread that she regularly distributed to family and friends. Cherished Mother of Evan (Linda), Betsy (Eric), Christine (Brian); and grandmother of Lauren, Philip (Kati), Stephanie, Eleni, Justine, Sophie, Olivia and Elizabeth; great-grandmother to Mila (deceased), Zoe and Liv. Funeral Service, Thursday morning, 9:30 a.m. from Daly Funeral Home, and 10 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 107 Clinton Street, Schenectady. Internment at Park View Cemetery, Schenectady. Visitation will be held at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY on Wednesday, January 18th from 5 to 70 p.m. The Trisagion service will be held at 5 p.m. Donations may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
