Herbert Avery, 91, passed away Wednesday, May 24, 2017 while enjoying his love of gardening. Herbert was born in Glenville, the son of the late Issac Edward and Lillian Avery, one of 11 children and was a lifelong area resident. He worked for the Grand Union Grocers for 42 years, starting out pushing a broom and retiring as the regional supervisor, earning every award and accolade they offered along the way. Herbert enjoyed gardening, roller skating, was an avid NY Yankee fan and as a young man played baseball with the Schenectady Blue Jays. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandsons play baseball and rarely missed a game. He was predeceased by his wife, Lois Avery, in 1985 and all of his siblings. Herbert is survived by his daughter and caregiver, Carol Ann (Dr. Robert) Werblin; grandsons, Michael (Danielle) Werblin, Matthew Werblin, and Mark Werblin; great-granddaughter, Micaela; and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Friday (today) 6 to 8 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. The funeral service will be Saturday 9 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie.
