Schenectady - Hazel Calista (Moore) Veivia, 92, of Schenectady, gently passed away, from dementia, on July 28, 2021. She was born on August 24, 1928 in Ellenburgh Depot, NY to the late Arthur and Ethel Moore and was a graduate of Ellenburgh H.S. She married Marshall Veivia of Ellenburgh Depot and moved to Schenectady. Hazel was a loyal and well-loved employee of Carl Company from where she retired to take care of her husband, who was paralyzed after an automobile accident. Hazel had an enormous heart which she shared with all those around her. It was the thousand little acts of kindness, such as the care packages sent to college, finding a hidden $5 bill in your coat pocket, making sure you had some of her special brownies to go, bringing in the neighbors' garbage cans or getting that random card in the mail with a funny cartoon clipped from the newspaper. Although she never had a driver's license, Hazel was fiercely independent and could be seen walking everyday to the grocery store or riding the CDTA bus. Hazel enjoyed crosswords, word search and picture puzzles. She was like a mother to us all and her spirit will be greatly missed, but fly like a Cardinal on the other side. She is survived by her brother Richard Moore of Ellenburgh, sister-in-law Rita Moore of Scotia, nephew Joe Moore of Rotterdam, nephew David Galluzzo of Brunswich and various nephews, nieces and cousins. Hazel is predeceased by sisters Elsie Oliver and Dawne Moore, brothers Maurice, Hollis and William "Joe" Moore and her husband Marshall Veivia. There will be a small local celebration of her life and a private family interment ceremony at Sheldon Hill Cemetery in Ellenburgh Depot, NY at a future date. Memorial contributions can be made in Hazel's name, to the Eddy Alzheimer's Services, 421 Columbia Street, Cohoes, NY 12047.
