Charles Collins Obituary

Collins, Charles A.

Amsterdam - Charles A. Collins, 92, passed away Wednesday June 19, 2024.

Charles was born and raised in western New York, the son of the late Herbert and Ethel (Bissett) Collins and proudly served in the U S Army during the Korean War, serving more than a year of that time overseas. Charles worked as a watchmaker for many years. At first he was self employed and later worked at Frank Adams Jewelers and trained by Rolex routinely working on them and even repaired Mike Tyson’s Rolex. After retirement from the jewelry industry Charles volunteered at the Schenectady Air Museum and took flying lessons, always had a fondness for photography. He also loved playing the drums and xylophone and was a drummer in a soft rock band called the Lancers. Charles had a passion for Jazz music specifically Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.

He was also always goofy and loved to annoy his grandkids which they loved to get even in return. He was such a joy. He was always there when we needed him and never said no. I could go on for days but he lived a full happy life with many accomplishments and was the most amazing father. He is an inspiration to all of us and we miss him terribly.

He was predeceased by his wife Carole Collins and was previously married to Joan Cookingham Collins who also predeceased him. Charles was also predeceased by a sister Judith Tobey, uncle Leslie Bissett and step-son Daniel Stevens.

Charles is survived by his children: Steven Collins, Cheryl (Anthony) Indelicato and Megan (Shawn) Sandy, step-daughter Denise (Jermaine) Jones-Stutz, grandchildren: Jayden Honsaker, Gabriella Menendez and Madison Sandy and several nieces, nephews and cousins and his former wife Diane (Gotobed) Collins.
