Gramma LuLu’s Obituary Ruth Jean Hester, 83, of Schenectady NY, passed away on August 17th after a long and fulfilling life full of so much love. Ruthie was born on March 4, 1941 in Alexandria, Virgina. She was raised by her mother Haddie Mae and her beloved Aunt Margaret “Mimi”. Mimi and Ruthie moved to the Schenectady, NY area early in Ruthie’s adult life. Ruthie was strong and relentless; overcoming adversities, learning disabilities and health problems, always persevering with love and a smile. Ruthie loved working in the garden at Schenectady Central Park. She loved arts and crafts and pottery. As a long time member of ARC, Ruthie was always busy and surrounded by her friends including: Elaine Bleu, Jeffery, Debbie, Nancy and soo many others. She enjoyed City Club, dinners out, watching TV and most importantly bowling. Ruthie was an avid bowler who put many to shame! As an honorary member, Ruthie spent countless hours with her closest friend Barbara and the whole Dzilao Family, visiting them in Delaware was special time for her each year. Gramma LuLu’s greatest joy was her grandchildren, Lauran & David Michael Hester. She spent many years helping her 'adopted’ daughter Janine Adams (Pardi) raise her two kids. Whether it was showering them with toys at Christmas or making sure they had what they needed for school, Ruthie was always there. Ruthie never hesitated spoiling the grandkids, always taking them to the corner store to get all the snacks they wanted. As Ruthie aged, the tables turned, and Gramma LuLu was watched upon by David and Lauran and her beloved nephew, Zachary Person Evans. They would spend time with Gramma / Aunti (Auni), taking her to church & dinner, watching her favorite cartoon, playing video games, or just listening to the great music of BB King , Al Green, Otis Redding, Stevie Wonder, and Michael Jackson. She loved to go on drives and get a bite to eat. Lauran, David and Zach always made sure their Gramma / Aunti attended all the family BBQs, birthday parties and dinner celebrations, where she got to see all the family and friends she loved and who loved her. Then her great grand-daughter, Ahna Garcia was born. Whenever she saw Ahna, Great Gramma LuLu’s eyes lit up and a smile never left her face. Now Gramma LuLu had a sassy side. Watch out for her cane if you cracked a joke about her being short or if you rolled your eyes when she wanted another Peach Snapps and OJ. Gramma she wouldn’t hesitate to tap your leg with that cane “You better watch it!” she’d exclaim. But it was all in good fun and always with a smile and a laugh. Oh yea! Ruthie was known for her amazing cornbread! Everyone couldn’t wait to eat it at Thanksgiving! And trust me the recipe has been passed around, but no one made it better! Ruthie was welcomed in heaven by her many family members: Mother, Haddie Mae Hester, Aunt ,Margaret L. Person, Nephew, Zachary Person, Uncle, Walter Hester, Friend, Elaine Bleu and Friend, Jeffery Younes to name a few. Ruthie is survived by her grandchildren: David Michael, Lauran, Victoria & Madison Hester. Great grandchild: Ahna Garcia, Journee Hester. Niece In-Law, TShauna Person Evans. Great nieces & nephews: Zakyra, Trinity, Zachery Jr. & La’Juan Person and great great niece, Milan. Nieces: Diane (Warren) Hester-Brown, Donna Hester.
