Margaret E. Cimino Obituary

Margaret "Peggy" Cimino, 86, of Niskayuna, beloved wife of the late Enzo A. Cimino, passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 12, 2025. Born May 20, 1938, in Warsaw, NY, she lived with her parents along with an older brother Joe and a younger sister Rosemary. She attended Potsdam State Teachers College in Potsdam, NY, receiving her Bachelor and Master's degrees in Elementary Education. There she met her future husband who was also working towards his teaching degrees in music, they were married in Buffalo in 1960, and she began her first teaching position as a 5th grade teacher at the W.I. Bills Elementary School in Herkimer, NY.

She and her husband then moved to Niskayuna, NY in 1963. She remained home to care for their first child Cathy and a few years later for their second child Jeffrey. Once their children were both in school, she resumed her teaching at the Mohonasen School District as a 3rd grade teacher at the Pinewood Elementary School. She was a model teacher who was loved and adored by all her students. She remained in the district until her retirement in 1993.

Peggy loved teaching, children, cooking, and her baking skills were simply outstanding! After retirement, she soon found that storytelling was a wonderful way and tool to communicate with people, no matter what age. She became a member of the National Story Telling Association of Albany, NY. As a professional Storyteller her talents and ability to communicate called on her to present several types of programs such as telling stories in classrooms, school assemblies, church groups, libraries, and other community gatherings. Here is a link to her storytelling.

Peggy took on many other interests and volunteering opportunities during retirement. This included becoming a member of Therapy Dogs International, Inc. Their last family pet, an Australian Shepherd, was trained and taken to endless visits by Peggy to Nursing Homes and Senior Living facilities. Her presence with "Sasha" always brought cheer, smiles and comfort to their residents and its aging senior population. As a communicant of St. Luke's Church, she also dedicated her time working at the St. Luke's Food Pantry of Schenectady distributing food to people in need. She volunteered her assistance at the Regional Food bank with a goal of helping as many people as possible. Her desire to give back to the community and those in need was exemplary.

Peggy is survived by her children Cathy Lynn Cimino and Jeffrey (Allyson) Cimino and her two granddaughters, Lisa and Hailey.
