LATHAM, NY - Debbie A. (Cary) Konopka, 67, passed away peacefully Friday, February 21, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.
Debbie was born in Niskayuna the daughter of the late Charles "Bud" and Helen Cary and sister of the late Vicki Kroboth and nephew Shane Kroboth. She graduated from Mohonasen High School, attended Hudson Valley Community College and was a lifelong capital district resident. Deb started her career in pharmacy with Community Health Plan, worked at Albany Medical Center and then transitioned to Stratton VA Medical Center. She worked there for 22 years before retiring due to illness.
She was a member of the Christian's Women's Club, the St. Elizabeth's Auxiliary and communicant of St. Gabriel's Church. Her favorite pastimes included cruising, white water rafting, skiing, and spending time with family and friends.
Debbie is survived by her siblings Kevin (Christine) Cary of Latham, Holly (Joe) Litz of Niskayuna, Kim Cary (Floyd Goska) of Rotterdam and brother-in-law Al Kroboth. She is also survived by her nieces and nephews Erika and Brian Cary, Gabriella, Jessica and Lauren Litz, and Ashley Melinus in addition to many longtime friends, most especially Karen Klein.
A mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Wednesday, 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel's Church followed by interment at Memory Gardens. There will be no calling hours.
Debbie was a successful heart transplant recipient, having gone through the surgery in 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to The American Heart Association or The Rotterdam Boys and Girls Club at 721 Curry Rd., Schenectady, NY 12306.
