Sharon Gilbert, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully at home on August 23, 2025, surrounded by her loving family and her best friend, Toni Boughton, at the age of 75.
Sharon dedicated her life to her family and to creating a warm, welcoming home for all who entered.She was the heart of every gathering and a force to be reckoned with—determined, hardworking, and fiercely loyal to those she loved.
Sharon lived a life filled with creativity, joy, and generosity. An avid knitter and cross-stitcher, she found great comfort and pride in her crafts. For a time, she turned her passion into a successful small business,the Missed Stitch, bringing beauty and personal touches to countless homes. She was also a respected figure in the Town of Niskayuna Building Department where she always met community members with a smile and retired after twenty years of dedicated service.
Sharon cherished family trips to South Carolina, where she enjoyed sitting by the ocean and creating lasting memories with her loved ones. Sharon’s playful spirit was known to all—she was never afraid to surprise her friends with a cartwheel at a party, reminding everyone of her joyful and humorous nature.Whether caring for her family or pursuing her passions, Sharon’s strength and determination left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents Alfred and Charlotte Farone. Sharon is survived by her husband of 54 years, Carl Gilbert; her children, Chris Gilbert and Stacey Barrick, son-in-law Andrew; and her treasured grandchildren, Bailey, Owen, and Avery. She also leaves behind countless friends and extended family, including her "second daughter", Susan Farone, and Lisa Fruscio who will forever cherish her memory.
Her life was defined by devotion—to her family and to the many friendships she nurtured throughout the years. Sharon’s legacy will live on in the love she gave and the joy she brought to so many lives.
At Sharon’s request, no services will be held. A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held at a later date,where family and friends will gather to honor the beautiful impact she made on this world.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice in Sharon’s memory, in gratitude for the compassionate care they provided. She left us too soon and will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered always.
