John P. Margiton Obituary

John Paul Margiton, 84, passed away peacefully at his home on September 30, 2025. Born on St. Patrick's Day, March 17, 1941, "in good ole' Montreal, baby," a son of the late Paul and Ruby Margiton.

John was a quiet, private man who nevertheless left a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to get to know him. When a person earned his trust, they could count on hearing about the things he loved most: Elvis Presley, the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, and the timeless Western movies of John Wayne.

For more than 35 years, John dedicated himself to Pine Ridge Industries in Scotia, NY, where his strong work ethic and quick wit were cherished by coworkers and anyone he crossed paths with. He liked to joke that he'd "take his boss's job right over." Before that, he worked at Union College, Pizza Hut, and the Gideon Putnam Hotel-where he once met Tom Jones! In his earlier years, John also attended the Rome State School.

John enjoyed life's simple pleasures: summer visits to the Elvis Presley Festival in Lake George, trips to the casino, car shows at the mall, and his ever-growing ring collection. A good Western movie, a strong cup of coffee, a cold beer, and a cigarette always brought him joy. He shared many holidays with his family—Nicole, Sandy, and Barb—and loved exchanging letters and stories with his cousin Sue. He had a soft spot for motorcycles, and even took a memorable ride on the back of one.

Though he may not have realized it, John touched countless lives. He made friends who became family, whether at work, at his home, or during his retirement at Maple Ridge. His humor, resilience, and warmth left lasting marks on the hearts of all who knew him. To his family, he was not only beloved, but a steady, stubborn, and deeply cherished presence whose love—though often quiet—was always felt.

John's life was a reminder that joy can be found in the little things. Those lucky enough to have known John will profoundly miss him. His stories, his humor, his resilience—they'll stay with us always.

Rest easy, John. You'll forever be part of our family—and always in our hearts.
