James Richard Staub Obituary

James passed away on 10/15/25, at Albany Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose quiet strength and kind heart touched the lives of many.

James is survived by his daughter, Kathryn (Eugene) Smith, a son, James (Amanda) Staub, a brother, Edwin Staub, and sister Linda Staub; 3 cherished grandchildren, Bethany, Terri and Sean, along with 3 beloved great-grandchildren, Brysen, Hadley and Beau. He is loved and remembered by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Genevieve Murphy, his mother Genevieve Staub, and his father, Earl Staub.

As a proud veteran, James served in the United States Air Force for 3 years, during the Vietnam Era. Following his service, he worked for 2 decades as a mechanic at the Watervliet Arsenal, where his skills and dedication were deeply respected.

James was a man of simple joys. He had a lifelong love for his pets and a fondness for classic television, as well as his science fiction programs.

Per his wishes, no services will be held. In lieu of services, donations can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or ASPCA.

The family finds comfort in knowing that James is at peace and that his memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His devotion to his family will forever be remembered. Our family would like to extend a special thank you to the 2 compassionate nurses, Josephine and Caitlyn, as well as the SICU team, for the exceptional care and kindness they showed in his final days. The family will forever be grateful. He will be deeply missed and forever loved
