James H. Kelty III

James H. Kelty, the third, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at his home in Rotterdam. Born in Albany, New York, James spent most of his life in the Capital Region, with the exception of nearly two decade living in Florida and Louisiana. During his time in the South, he dedicated himself to helping rebuild homes for victims of Hurricane Katrina—an effort that reflected both his skill and his generous spirit.

A talented carpenter throughout his entire adult life, James took great pride in his work and the satisfaction of creating with his hands. Outside of his craft, he found joy in the outdoors—stargazing, camping, boating, and taking family vacations that created cherished memories. He was a lifelong Miami Dolphins fan, an avid student of American history with a special interest in the Civil War, and took great pride in his British Isle heritage. He often imagined one day learning to play the bagpipes. James also enjoyed science fiction, horror movies, and the simple pleasure of a good story.

James is survived by his daughter, Beth Secor (Steven), and their sons Cole, William, and Derek; his son James (Nichole) and their children Alyssa, Cheyenne, Theodore,

Adelle, and Owen. He is also survived by his former wife, Alma Kelty, his five siblings, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. James was predeceased by his parents Andrea and James Kelty, Jr.

A memorial service for James will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, at 2:00 PM at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McLean Street, Schenectady, New York. Calling hours will precede the service from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family.
