James John Rossi, Born December 17th 1956, passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by family, friends and memories on December 18th 2025. Born to Peter and Patricia (Jurosko) Rossi in Schenectady NY, James enjoyed spending time with family and friends, the outdoors, outings with his day program groups and most memorably his love for his playing cards and the comfort they provided him. Jim, as his family and friends knew him, had a special way of communicating with others. Though he was non-verbal he could get your attention easily by pulling your hand to him for a loving head rub, signing eagerly and excitedly when he was enjoying food and company and loved tossing a ball or the nearest throw pillow, sneakily, to garner a laugh.
Jim attended the Little Red School House in Washington DC as a child and then Maple Ridge Center followed by BOCES at O.D. Heck upon returning to Schenectady. He was then enrolled in Residential Opportunities with The Center For Disability Services at the age of 25 and left home to found his new and exciting world along with an ever-growing group of new family and friends.
Jim is predeceased by both of his parents. He is survived by his twin sister Janet (Rossi) Herbert and her Husband Randal Herbert, his younger sister Deborah Rossi, as well as his niece Jillian Herbert and her Husband Cody Rule. Janet, Randal, Jillian and Cody also lovingly served as his legal advocates and guardians. James leaves behind his close housemates Ken, Pierre, Donnie and Dan. Jim was also supported through out his life by countless caring staff members especially during his time with the Center For Disability Services. Jim's family would like to express their unending appreciation and gratitude for the care Jim received, both past and present.
During the last year of his life, Jim was also cared for by the impeccable team at Community Hospice of the Capital Region. Thanks to their efforts, Jim was able to find peace and rest at home in his final days to which his friends and family are grateful and could not have done without.
Services will be held Saturday December 27th at Daly's Funeral Home in Schenectady NY. Visitation hours are from 9-11am with a service to follow immediately after. James will be interred at Saints Cyril & Method Cemetery, 611 Duanesburg Rd, Rotterdam NY. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family request that you consider making a donation in Jim's name by check to the Center For Disability Services Foundation at 314 S Manning Blvd Albany NY 12208.
"Dear God, If I was a star, I'd like to be a very bright one. I thank God for making me unique. I praise God for giving me special abilities. When I use my talent to do something with my heart and soul, I feel good. I know God is pleased. I feel like a bright shining star, reflecting God's love to the world." Love, Jim.
