Lalta Persaud, 79, of Becker Street, Schenectady, passed away with his loving family by his side, Saturday January, 10, 2026. He was born March 7, 1946 in Plantation Lusignon, Guyana, son of the late Seraj and Phuljharie (Singh) Persaud.

Lalta had a long career working several jobs for the Guysuco Sugar Estate. He started at the age of 14 and retired after 46 years. Lalta loved fishing, and playing cricket and dominos. He enjoyed riding his bike and spending time with his family and friends.

Lalta is survived by his wife of 58 years, Drewpatie (Rajpaul) of Schenectady, four children; son Davindra Persaud and his wife Rohanie of queens, daughter Shalonie Persaud-Heald and her husband Jay of Lewis, son Dashanand Persaud of Bladen Hall East Coast Demerara, Guyana, son Deva Persaud and his wife Somwatie of Schenectady, nine grandchildren: Krystal Jaquish, Brandon Porter, Tashani Persaud Adiena Jacks, Angela Persaud, Ken Persaud, Mona Persaud, Sachin Persaud, Aria Persaud, two great grandchildren: Jenna Jaquish and Kallen Jaquish. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Calling hours will be Friday January 16, 2026, from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady. A traditional Hindu funeral will be held Saturday January 17, 2026, at 9:00 AM at Daly Funeral Home Chapel. Following cremation, Lalta will be laid to rest in Guyana.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Lalta's memory may be made to Shri Raam Mandir.
