Sara Heiligman Obituary
Heiligman, Sally
Glenville, NY
Sally Heiligman passed away peacefully at home after a long, courageous battle with cancer on Sunday May 31, 2026. Born in Muskogee, OK, during her father’s war time field training, she and her sisters grew up in Amsterdam, NY where the family was from. She attended Amsterdam schools, graduating in 1961. As a senior she was editor of the high school newspaper and wrote a weekly column for the evening Amsterdam Recorder. While attending The College of Saint Rose, she was class president for three years and was included in Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges.
After she and her family moved to Webster, NY, she quickly became involved in community and local politics while raising three daughters. Many of her most cherished memories were summers spent at the family camp on Galway Lake with family, friends and especially grandchildren. Throughout her adult life her children and grandchildren were her pride and joy.
In 2000, she graduated the Episcopal Seminary of The Colgate Rochester Divinity School with distinction, beginning a new chapter as an episcopalian priest. Over a 25-year career she served in the Rochester, Syracuse and Albany Dioceses.
She is predeceased by her son-in-law Brian Jordan, grandson Jack Heiligman, her parents Robert and Dorothy Martin of Amsterdam, and her husband Ed Heiligman. Her loving family
includes Lisa (David) Pritchard, Karen (Michael) Grace-Martin, and Amy Martin. Her grandchildren include Charlie and Tim Jordan, Julian Grace-Martin and Evren Mace, and Ari (Amber) Nova. Stepchildren Dan (Sharon) Heiligman, Tom Heiligman and Diane (Ed) White and grandchildren AJ (Anne Marie), Kim (Dan), Christine, Leigh and Kelly, and nine great grandchildren. Sisters Jeanne (Richard) Altieri and Peggy (Gary) Nelson.
For over 10 years Sally has been heavily involved with and on the board of Healing a Woman's Soul, an organization that supports victims of domestic violence in the Capital Region. In gratitude for the love and support from the St Boniface community, the last church Sally served, donations to Saint Boniface Episcopal Church, 5148 Western Ave, Guilderland, NY 12084 and Healing a Woman's Soul, PO Box 50134, Albany, NY 12205 in Albany are greatly appreciated in lieu of flowers.
