Obituary of Mary E. Hickey

Mary E. Hickey (Donovan), 81, passed away after a short illness on Saturday, December 30, 2023. She was the daughter of the late Leo and Helen Donovan, and a lifelong resident of Schenectady. She attended Mont Pleasant High School and was a member of the graduating class of 1960. She met her loving husband, Francis J. Hickey, through the Catholic Young Adult League and they married in June 1965. They enjoyed square dancing and bowling in their younger years. Most recently she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, camping at Pine Lake and visiting with her four grandchildren. She worked at CHP and the Center for Disability for many years before retiring at the age of 72. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Francis J. Hickey and their two daughters; Marcia Nickerson and her husband Gregory Nickerson and Anne Bood and her husband, Jeff Bood and four beloved grandchildren; her sister, Nancy Hauenstein and her brother, Thomas Donovan and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister Katherine Primeau. A mass of Catholic burial will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 6th, at St John the Evangelist; the church where she was a longtime parishioner. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
