Please share a memory of William to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Schenectady - William E. Davidsen, Jr., passed away Saturday April 13, 2024 at Albany Medical Center. Bill was born in Schenectady, the son of the late Loretta Brautigam and William E. Davidsen, Sr. and was a lifelong resident of the area, growing up in Woodlawn and graduating from Mont Pleasant High School. He worked at General Electric for many years, starting there in high school unloading mail bags after class to help pay the bills after his father died. In the 70's, he developed a love of computers before they were "a thing" and he ended up turning computers into a career, eventually working at GE's Research and Development Center. After his time at GE, Bill and his wife owned and operated TMR Associates, a computer consulting firm and most recently he was employed by Prodigy Communications Corp. In addition to his love of technology, Bill loved driving stock cars, playing guitar, listening to ragtime, playing in his jug band, brewing beer, and vacationing in Belfast, Maine with his family. He was a lifetime member of the Iroquois Rod and Gun Club, shooting trap competitively and spending many years playing poker with the guys on Monday nights. He was also a member of the Elsmere Rod and Gun Club. Bill and his family lived in the Stockade neighborhood for many years, where he became president of the Stockade Association and later the Schenectady Jaycee's. He was predeceased by his wife of nearly 50 years, Patricia Cain Davidsen. At the age of 19, his love for her was immediate and after knowing her just 3 days, he knew that they would be married. He is also survived by his daughters: Erika Ditmars and Lee Davidsen (Jim Thorwarth), grandchildren: Amy, Kevin and Scott Ditmars and Nicholas Thorwarth, great-grandchildren: Camden and Oliver. Calling hours will be Friday 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, the Estherville Animal Shelter, or the American Cancer Society.
