Obituary of Ruth Hofmann

Charlton - Ruth H. Hofmann (Weaver) 87, of Charlton and formerly of Niskayuna died peacefully November 9, 2013 surrounded by her loving family. She was born and educated in Albany, graduating from Albany High School in 1944 and was the daughter of the late Harold F. Weaver of Albany and Hazel M. (Howard "Red") Boice of Watervliet. Ruth married the love of her life, John August Hofmann Sr. on June 22nd 1946 upon his return from service with the United States Army throughout the Pacific during World War II. She devoted her life to the care of her home and family and was a symbol of strength and integrity. Upon her retirement in 1982 from Montgomery Ward customer service she enjoyed her leisure time camping throughout the Adirondacks, passing on treasured family recipes, caring for her flowers and vegetable gardening with her husband. She was predeceased in 2006 by her beloved husband, John after sharing 60 years of marriage together. Ruth was also predeceased by her sister Dolores Metcalfe of Colonie and brother Robert Weaver of Troy along with several nephews, nieces and in-laws. Survivors include her children, Linda A. Hofmann of Charlton, John (Mary) Hofmann Jr. of Colonie, Kathleen Hofmann (Joe Casella) of Rotterdam and Joyce (Bruce) Gavin of Niskayuna. She is also survived by her aunt Jeannie Hurley of Albany, brother-in-law Robert Hofmann of Colonie and sister-in-law Helena Weaver of Troy along with several nieces and nephews. Ruth was a loving and supportive grandmother to Shane Hofmann of Colonie, Jennifer (Aaron) Rathburn of Altamont, Douglas DiBlasio of Chicago, Matthew DiBlasio of Glenville and Jessica Gavin of Niskayuna and also great-grandmother to Mathias DiBlasio and Sophia Moya of Glenville and Cameron and Kiarah Rathburn of Altamont. A calling hour will be held at Daly Funeral Home 242 McClellan St., Schenectady on Friday, November 15 from 8:30 to 9:30 am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at The Church of the Immaculate Conception Church in Glenville at 10AM. Interment will be private at Our Lady of Angels Cemetery in Colonie. The family wishes to thank the staff at Community Hospice of Schenectady, Ellis Hospital/6th Floor, Dr. Jacob and Dr. Goodman of Upstate Hematology/Oncology and Capital Living Rehabilitation/Nursing Centre for the many acts of kindness and compassion shown to our mother. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ruth's name may be made to the Community Hospice of Schenectady at 1411 Union Street, Schenectady, New York 12308.
