Please share a memory of Lyons to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Marie M. Lyons Rotterdam Marie Lyons, age 64, of Rotterdam, NY passed away at home on November 21, 2013, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. She was surrounded by her adoring husband and daughter. She was born to the late Sylvester and Providence Albano on November, 23, 1948. Marie attended St. Helena's High School and graduated from Bronx Community College with a degree in retail and marketing. She went on to become an associate buyer for Allied Stores in Manhattan. She moved to Schenectady from the Bronx when she married her husband of 41 years and worked for Carl Company as a retail buyer for 18 years. She often went on business trips to New York City. Later, she worked as a supervisor for Prudential Insurance in their medical division, which was later acquired by Aetna Insurance, where she was a supervisor for the dental division. Marie retired from Aetna in 2002 after 12 years of service. Marie enjoyed spending time with her beloved family and friends. She spent many summers boating in Lake George with her husband and close friends. She often had a nice tan to go with her gorgeous smile. Marie loved to meet her friends for lunch and share stories. She loved a good bargain when she was shopping and always got a kick out of the smallest joys in life. Her nephew called her the coupon lady. She loved to sit with her grand-cat as he brought many smiles. Marie had the best smile, it lit up the room, her email name was even smileylyons. Her humor and zest for life was infectious and you couldn't help but want to be around her. Marie enjoyed her recent family weekend at the Desmond Hotel with her close-knit family, including her husband, daughter, brother and sister-in-law, her nieces and nephews, and meeting her new great niece. She loved to spend time with her daughter and take fun get-away weekends to see plays in Willamstown, MA and all over. She enjoyed musicals, her two favorite soap operas and the music of Sarah Brightman and Phantom of the Opera. She was overjoyed to see Brightman in concert in September. Above all, she cherished her loving daughter who was her best friend, and who was always there for her. Marie will be remembered for her beautiful personality, endless energy and enthusiasm, and for her devotion to her family and life. She will be forever in our hearts and memories. Marie is survived by her husband, James; daughter, Michele; brother, Michael; sister-in-law, Nancy; sister-in-law, Pauline, and sister; Jennifer. Marie was predeceased by her son, Michael; father, Sylvester; mother, Providence; father-in-law, Robert; mother-in-law, Rosemary and brother-in-law; Richard. Funeral service Friday, 12 noon at St. Luke's Church (1241 State St. Schenectady) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. There will be no calling hours. The family would like to thank everyone at Women's Cancer Care at St. Peter's Hospital and everyone on the 3rd floor of The Nolan Riddle Wing at St. Peter's Hospital. Marie never lost her humor and said getting chemo was her day at the spa. The family is thankful for all the love Marie received from her friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations me made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, PO Box 1893, Memphis, TN 38101-9950.
