Obituary of John Stankes

Halfmoon - John C. Stankes, 90, passed away Sunday, November 9, 2014, peacefully, surrounded by family. John was born in Providence, RI, the son of the late Annie and Frank Stankes. He proudly served in the US Navy during WW II. John worked as a food service manager for Baptist Health and Rehab Center and several other health care facilities and more recently worked at NYSUT as a security guard. He was a devout Catholic, a longtime communicant of St. Luke's Church and loved playing the ponies at Saratoga. John is survived by four children, six grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephew, and cousins in New York and Rhode Island. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, 12 noon at St. Luke's Church, Schenectady. Calling hours will precede the service on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Catholic burial will be at Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke's Church, 1241 State St., Schenectady, NY 12304.
