Schenectady - Lucile Powers O'Brien, 98, drifted peacefully into eternal rest after along and admired life. She was the cherished mother of Laurene C. O'Brien; beloved grandmother of Michael T. O'Brien (Patricia Price) of Corinth and Mary-Catherine O'Brien Kramer (Matthew) of Randolph, MA; and honored foster grandmother of Tien Anna Tran (Jing Lai Shen) of Elkridge, MD. She was the daughter of William L. Powers and Julia O'Leary Powers, born in Queensbury, in 1916. She was the widow of William Raymond O'Brien, who died in 1951. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marjorie Powers, Rachel Mae Ewan, Martha Mercadante and Margaret Monroe; her brothers, Lawrence and Paul Powers. She is survived by her sisters, Natalie Powers of Hudson Falls, Veronica Powers of Glens Falls, and Patricia Jameson (George) of Schenectady; and her brothers, Joseph Powers (Anne) and Leo Powers of Glen Falls. She is survived by scores of cherished nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews, residing in almost every state of the Union and in several countries, of whom she was very proud. She was a graduate of St. Mary's Academy in Glens Fall and Schenectady Community College. She was employed, after the death of her husband, at the General Electric Co. for 25 years (MA0). She was a 70-year member of the Catholic Daughters of America, an honored 50-year member of the Frilly Dilly Chapter of the Schenectady Home Bureau and a member of the Care for the Elderly Committee of St. John the Evangelist Church for several years. At her 90th birthday celebration she was repeatedly described by her numerous nieces and nephews as welcoming and kind with memorable acts of generosity to each of them. Her greatest skill, they said, was her ability to listen caringly to their problems, hopes and dreams. They continued to visit, bring presents and send cards and pictures to her delight during the final decades of her life.
