Davenport, FL - Joseph B. Kafer, Sr., 75, of Westwind Dr., formerly of Amelia St., Colonie, died Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at home. Joe was born in the Bronx, the son of John and Clara Kafer. He moved to the capital district as a child and was a graduate of Albany High School. He had served in the Army National Guard. Joe worked for the New York State Senate and Legislature in the printing shop, retiring in 2001, as supervisor. He was a former member the Elks, Liederkranz and Zion Lutheran Church. He will be remembered as a devoted husband, loving father and stepfather and was very family oriented. He is survived by his wife, Norma Quintana Kafer. One son, Joseph Kafer II; stepchildren, Debra (Gus) Papanikos, Joy (Ron) Smith, Eric (Paula) Townsend and the late Wayne Townsend; siblings, Betty Dittmer, Helen Leromain, Olga Robinson, John Kafer and Christopher Kafer; 11 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren; cousins and nieces and nephews. Funeral service, Tuesday afternoon, 1 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Calling hours, Tuesday morning 11 to 1 p.m. in the afternoon. Interment, Schenectady Memorial Park, Rotterdam Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Hospice, 3470 Lakeland Hills Blvd., Lakeland, FL 33805. Joe's family would like to acknowledge special thanks to cousins, Della and Joe Henstenburg, for helping Joe through his illness.
