Glenville - Alexander "Al" Williams, 90, passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 at home, surrounded by his loving family. Al was born in Coldenham, NY, the son of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth Williams. He proudly served in the United States Army, first as a NCO at Camp Fannin, Texas and then with the 10th Infantry Battalion, 4th Armored Division. Al was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge while going on relief of the 101st Airborne Division at Bastogne, Belgium. The majority of his career was spent working for Mohawk National Bank as the Auditor and Comptroller, and he retired from Norstar Bank as the Manager of Trust Operations. Al was the past president and founder of Visiting Nurse Service Foundation, past president and past director of Schenectady Kiwanis Club, past Post Commander VFW Post 1286, Fishkill, NY and Charter Member of VFW Post 4660, Glenville, NY. He was also heavily involved in the Boy Scouts of America, the United Way and Burnt Hills Baptist Church. Al was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, life member of 4th Armored Division Association, member of Co. A, 10th Armored Infantry Battalion Association and a member of Schenectady Kiwanis Club. Al and his wife Pat were also very active in SOWERS (Servants On Wheels Ever Ready), a ministry of Christian RVers that does volunteer work for Christian organizations. Al and Pat have served over 50 projects in NY, TN, Georgia, Florida, Texas, Arizona, CA, Washington, Illinois, MS and Ohio. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 71 years, Patricia (Cahill) Williams; daughters, Barbara Weaver, Beth (Thomas) Keehan and Jessica (John) Weaver; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Al was predeceased by his daughter, Patricia Gibbons; his son, David Williams; and his brother, Thomas Williams. Calling hours will be Monday, 5 to 7 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. The funeral service will be Tuesday, 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be in Saratoga National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church, PO Box 206, Rexford, NY 12148.
