Obituary of Kathryn Canty
Please share a memory of Kathryn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Kathryn (Kay) Frey Canty, of Schenectady, passed away suddenly on January 2, 2022. Born in Corning, New York on October 23, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Sebastian Frey and Catherine McCarthy Frey. Kay graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College in 1960. She married her husband Ed in the same year, to whom she remained married and devoted to Ed for 60 years. For the next 25 years of her life, she committed herself to raising her nine children, before going back to work as a teacher in the Schenectady City School District. In 2011, Kay and her husband Ed were honored with the title of Schenectady Patroons for their distinguished service to the community.
Kay was a mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and a friend to everyone she met. She was also a teacher, quilter, cross stitcher, bridge player, stock investor, traveler, avid reader, puzzle enthusiast, and supporter of all things local. She went out of her way to make all people feel included. Kay was curious and inquisitive, and could strike up a conversation with anyone. She appreciated kind acts, genuine people, and a good sense of humor. Most of all, Kay enjoyed a large gathering and being surrounded by the people she loved.
Kay leaves behind seven children: Mary (Bob Linden) of Becket, MA; Jack (Maureen) of Skaneateles, NY: Bill (Lori) of Ballston Spa, NY; Tom (Anne) of Frankfurt, Germany; Tim (Karen) of Schenectady NY; Caker (Bill Deasy) of Mansfield, MA: Peter (Beth) of Brooklyn, NY. She also leaves behind her daughter-in-law Kristin (Jim) of Boston, MA, her brother, Dick Frey, of Corning, NY and twenty-four beautiful grandchildren. Kay was predeceased by her husband Ed, her sons, Jim and Mike, as well 8 brothers and sisters.
Due to the current COVID situation, the family has decided that funeral services will be for the immediate family only. The funeral will be live streamed at noon on Saturday, January 8 at 12pm, or available for viewing anytime after that. Please use the following link: https://youtu.be/dgi3Ly3VAtw.
