Schenectady - Elizabeth S. "Betty" Farrar, 81, passed away peacefully Monday, August 3, 2015 at Ellis Hospital. Elizabeth was born in Niagara Falls, NY, the daughter of the late James and Jeanie Stephen. She graduated from Niagara Falls High School and as a young woman went to work at Household Finance Company where she met her future husband, Philip Farrar. They were married September 29, 1962. Elizabeth and Philip moved to California until 1966, when Philip was offered a job in a family business in the Albany area. They have called the Schenectady-Niskayuna area home ever since. Elizabeth started back to work in 1980 at the family business, Upstate Collection Center where she worked until her retirement in 2014. She was a member of the Hugh Platt Garden Club, Women's League of Schenectady Symphony where she always participated in the annual fashion show, a member of the Historical Society and the Schenectady Museum. She was a longtime member of the Niskayuna PTA and a home room mother for many years. Elizabeth enjoyed bowling, playing bridge and had a wonderful sense of humor. She loved baking, sewing and needlepoint, and cherished teaching her granddaughter those very things. She was predeceased by her husband, Philip Farrar, on August 21, 2008; and three sisters. Elizabeth is survived by daughter, Tracey Farrar; granddaughter, Elizabeth Farrar-Gilson; brother, James Stephen of Otis, OR; sisters-in-law, Anne Stephen and Nancy Tofferi and many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to: friend and companion Betsi Gershon, Dr. David Armenia, Dr. Peter Rienzi, the nurses and staff of A 4 of Ellis Hospital, dear friend, Margaret Kodesch, and Michael Faragon for all he did for both Betty and Phil throughout the years. She loved you like a son. Calling hours will be Saturday, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home,Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, with a service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to American Diabetes Association, 2 Pine West Plaza, Albany, NY 12205.
