Schenectady - Jack Therrien died Thursday, October 1, 2015, after a brief illness. He joins his beloved wife of 54 years, Milly, and his son, Tom, who predeceased him. He is survived by his children, Pat Therrien, Michael and Sharon Therrien, Theresa Coons, Kathy Therrien, Joan Justice, Eileen and Jim Sack, Marilyn Therrien, Tom's wife, and Joe Therrien. He is the loving grandfather of 18 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents; and siblings; and is survived by many nieces and nephews. Born in Lansingburgh, NY, Jack graduated from Catholic High School and earned his teaching degree from New York State Teachers College. He began his teaching career at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania, and then enjoyed a long career as a Mathematics Professor at the University of Albany, prior to his retirement. One of his cherished accomplishments was the Outstanding Teacher award bestowed on him, which was determined by student choice. His family delights in the many times they hear, "He was the best teacher I ever had", from his former students. In addition to being a dedicated father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Jack devoted much of his time to singing at St. Paul's and St. Helen of Sweden, now St. Kateri Tekakwitha Parish, in the choirs and serving as cantor. Retirement allowed him to enjoy his time with his family and in playing golf, bridge and volleyball with family and friends. He enjoyed his quieter times playing video games, watching TV and reading science fiction. Funeral services, Monday morning, 9 a.m. at St Kateri Tekakwitha Parish (Union St.), where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours, Sunday evening, 4 to 7 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home 242 McClellan St, Schenectady. Interment, Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
