Schenectady - Frederick H. Smith, 96, formerly of Frank St., died Sunday, December 27, 2015 at Glendale Nursing Home. Fred was born in Schenectady and attended Nott Terrace High School. He was a World War II Army veteran. He worked at the General Electric Co. as an Inspector in the Gas Turbine Dept., retiring in 1974. He loved baseball and one of his favorite past times was watching the Red Sox games. He was predeceased by his wife, Florence Vrooman Smith, they were married 52 years at the time of her death 1998. Fred is survived by his son, Frederick (Jamie) Smith; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Emmett Smith. A graveside service will be held Wednesday morning at Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie, following the calling hours, Wednesday morning, 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. The Smith family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Glendale Nursing for their care and kindness extended to Fred during his years at Glendale, especially to the staff at Erie Crossing.
