Charles F. Cary, 83, of Suffolk Ave., passed away on Friday, March 4, 2011, at Ellis Hospital, after a short illness. Bud was born and grew up in Cambridge, New York. He was the son of Charles and Marghuerite Sheridan Cary. He put himself through Ithaca College where he earned a BS in physical education and after working for a number of years went on to earn a master's in education administration from Columbia University. He proudly served as a medic in the U.S Army and was stationed on the 38th parallel in the Korean War. After his tour he moved to Schenectady, first working for the Rotterdam Boys Club then was hired as a PE teacher for the Mohonasen Central School District. He worked as the assistant principal at the Middle School from the year it opened until he retired in 1989 with the exception of a year when he served in the High School. He was a member of the Rotterdam Elks, VFW Post 1895, American Legion Post 0634, and communicant of St. Gabriel's Church. Bud will always be remembered for how he enjoyed life to the fullest. He was married to Helen M. Thibault Cary for 42 years, until her death in 2001. He was also predeceased by their daughter, Vicki Kroboth who he missed every day and her son, Shane. Bud is survived by his four adoring children, Debbie Konopka of Rotterdam, Kevin (Christine) Cary of Latham, Holly (Joseph) Litz of Niskayuna, and Kim Cary (fiance, Floyd Goska) of Rotterdam; son-in-law, Al Kroboth of W. Lebanon; six grandchildren, Brian and Erika Cary, Gabriella, Jessica, and Lauren Litz, and Ashley Kroboth; one great-grandchild, Mikaela; his loving companion, Benita Collins; his two sisters, Mary Blackstone, Gloria Cary; and sister-in-law, Geri Cary; and his nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Cary. Funeral service will be held Tuesday morning 9 from Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 at St. Gabriel's Church (3040 Hamburg St., Rotterdam) will be celebrated. Calling hours are Monday afternoon from 4 to 8 in the evening at the funeral home. Bud will be laid to rest in Memory Gardens Cemetery, Colonie, with military honors. Memorial contributions can be made to the Rotterdam Boys and Girls Club, 721 Curry Road, Schenectady, NY 12306. Bud's family would like to extend their great appreciation to Sylvia Anapolis and Geri Cary for the love and support they have shown to both Bud and them, for which they will always be grateful.
