Schenectady - Gwendolyn June Bavernitz Wood, 92, formerly of McClellan St., Schenectady, passed peacefully on Jan. 20 after a long illness. Born June 1, 1924, in Schenectady, NY to the late Charles E. Bavernitz and Minnie V. Keith. She attended Brandywine Ave. School, Brown School, Central Park Junior High School and Nott Terrace High School graduating in 1942. She also attended Union College. She was employed at American Locomotive Company as a bookkeeper, retiring in 1963 to care for her home and family. Gwendolyn attended State St. Presbyterian Church. She was a past member of the Triangle Girls and the NYS Order of the Eastern Star. Gwendolyn is survived by her daughter, Susan Faith Wood; granddaughter, Angela-Marie Fabiani; and Polly, her devoted calico cat. She is also survived by cousins. The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of River Ridge Living Center in Amsterdam, NY with a special heartfelt thank you to the A-Wing staff for the kindness and care they gave Gwendolyn during her residence there. There will be a memorial mass on Saturday, January 30, 2016, 10 a.m., at the State Street Presbyterian Church, 5 Catherine St., Schenectady. Burial will be beside her parents in the Johnstown Cemetery, a graveside service at the convenience of the family in spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ayres Memorial Animal Shelter, 133 Hilltop Road, Sprakers, NY 12166.
