Obituary of Norman LaPorte

Norman E. LaPorte, 92, loving husband of Ardis LaPorte, died Saturday, March 5, 2016, at home. Norman was born in Tupper Lake, the son of Antoine and Victoria LaPorte, and raised Brandreth Lake. He served in the U.S. Army, in the signal corps and was in the invasion of Normandy, battle of Ardennes and in central Europe, the Rhineland, in the Philippines and Asiatic Pacific. He was an electrician by trade and worked at ALCO Products until closing, later working at General Electrical, retiring as an Electrical Foreman, in 1986. He was president of the large family reunions for many years. He was a devoted Catholic and was communicant of St. Gabriel's Church, enjoyed music, big band, swing, gardening, travel and warm weather. As a husband, father and grandfather, he shared his values with family tradition, patience, humor, dependability, work ethics, and never making a promise he couldn't keep. He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Ardis; four children, Norman (Maryanne) of PA, Bonnie LaPorte Hofmann of Rotterdam, David LaPorte of KY and Holly (Tracey) LaPorte Kristel; grandchildren, Lorne LaPorte, Steven LaPorte, Charles Hoffman, US Coast Guard, Gregory Hoffmann and Michael LaPorte; four great-grandchildren. Norman was predeceased by his daughter, Sharon LaPorte and his 10 siblings. Funeral service, Friday morning, 10:45 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 11:30 a.m. at St. Gabriel's Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours, 8:45 to 10:45 a.m. Friday morning at the funeral home. Interment, Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Gabriel's Church, 3040 Hamburg St., Schenectady, NY 12303
