Rotterdam Junction - Virginia (Ginger) Hobart, 61, died on March 4, 2016, in the Turks and Caicos Islands while vacationing with her husband. Born on April 22, 1954, in Winnetka, Illinois, she was the daughter of John and Mary Ballard Hobart. Ginger is survived by her husband of 35 years, Robert J. Campbell, MD; and their three daughters, Elisabeth Campbell of Seattle, Washington, Haley Campbell of Portland, Maine, and Shelby Campbell of Kodiak, Alaska; her sister, Mimi Petke (Jon) of Mission Viejo, CA; sister-in-law, Tamie Hobart (Ralph, deceased) of Barrington, IL, Jay Hobart (Clare) of Atlanta, GA, and Bud Hobart of Louisville, CO; sisters-in-law, Betsy Nejman (Edward, deceased), Polly Campbell of Brunswick, Maine, and Margaret Castagna (Jason) of Falmouth, Maine. She also has a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews who were an integral part of her family. Ginger attended North Shore Country Day School in Winnetka and graduated from Union College in Schenectady, NY. She was known throughout her life for her generous, adventuresome spirit. She loved to travel, and did so extensively with family and friends, making a point to venture off the beaten path. In particular, she made friends in Cambodia and became intimately involved with the charity Foundation for Water & Education, Cambodia (FWEC). She found hope and inspiration through philanthropy of all kinds throughout her life. Ginger also loved to ski, sail, garden, and walk on the beach. She held a very special love for her extended family's summer residence on Chebeague Island, ME, where she was a board member of the Chebeague Island Recreation Center. She and her husband supported the Second Wind Farm, an organic farm on the Island, as well as the Island Commons, a retirement home in the community. She devoted much of her energy to raising her children and managing the office of her husband's medical practice in Troy, NY. Services for Ginger will be held in the chapel at Emma Willard School in Troy, New York on Saturday, March 19, at 3 p.m. Relatives and friends may arrive as early as 2 p.m. to begin the celebration of her life. A reception will follow, also on the Emma Willard Campus. There will also be a memorial service in May on Chebeague Island. More information may be found on the following website: www.caringbridge.org/visit/gingerhobart. This is also a space to share condolences and memories for those who would like to do so.
