Obituary of Eileen Cassidy

Schenectady - Eileen T. Cassidy passed away peacefully in her sleep in the early hours of July 20, 2016 at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center. She had been a resident of the Kingsway Community since 2008. She was 90 years old. She was born Eileen Teresa Lenihan, daughter of Garrett and Mary Josephine Lenihan, in the small village of Shanballymore, County Cork, Ireland. Raised as part of large family, she emigrated to the United States after World War II and stayed with relatives in Boston. There she became a lifelong Red Sox fan. She also met a handsome young MIT student named Bernard "Bud" Cassidy. They were married in 1954, in spite of the fact he was from New York City and rooted for the Yankees. They moved to Schenectady, NY where Bud worked at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory for 40 years. They raised two children, Carol Cassidy of Northport NY and Kevin Cassidy of Stow MA. A devout Catholic, she was a member of the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites and for many years was a constant volunteer at the Carmelite Monastery in Schenectady. She was pre-deceased by her husband Bud and five brothers and is survived by her children, Carol and Kevin two sisters, Olive Fox of Cork and Sister Eilis Lenihan of Dublin and a number of nieces and nephews. Calling hours will be Monday 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. The funeral services will be Tuesday 10:15 am from the funeral home then to St. Paul the Apostle Church, Schenectady, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
