Schenectady - Joan K. Smida, 84, of O'Brien Ave., died Tuesday, September 20, 2016, at home. Joan was born in Schenectady, the daughter of Stephen and Helen Smida and was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School. She worked at the General Electric Co, as an administrative assistant, for 35 years, retiring in 1995. Joan was an associate member of the Electric City Detachment of the Marine Corp League, a member of the GE Women's Club, raised and showed Pugs and had been a communicant of St. Luke's in her younger years, in later years a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church. She is survived by her lifelong companion, Wanda Hunter; a sister, Lois Coughlin of Schenectady; nieces and a nephew, Cheryl Coughlin, Deborah (Lenny) Seeley, Donald (Sandy) Coughlin and Patricia (Jamie) Coughlin; great-nieces and nephew, Stephen, Brittany, Danielle and Nicolette; and adopted nieces and nephew, Jill, Sabrina and Sebastian. Funeral service, Friday afternoon 1 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A calling hour will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
