Obituary of Helen Sokol

Glenville - Helen M. Sokol, formerly of Glenridge Road, died at the age of 90, Tuesday, September 27, 2016. Residing with her daughter, Karen Ewart, in Fort Collins, Colorado, Helen passed away peacefully in her sleep. Helen, the daughter of Joseph and Marcella Bogdon, was born in and educated in Schenectady. Employed by Creative Solutions as a home health care aid in her later years. She was a longtime communicant of the Church of the Immaculate Conception. Helen was very involved in her children's school activities while they were growing up and enjoyed spending time with the family camp at the Great Sacandaga Lake. She was an active member in bible study. Loved family outings with her children at Lake George and was a 4H leader and den mother. Helen enjoyed crafts, reading, spending time at the library and one of her favorite activities was playing Bingo. Helen will always be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was predeceased by her husband, George J. Sokol. They were married in 1953 and he passed away in 2009. Helen is survived by five children, Marcie (Karl) Maurer of Glenville, Rudi (Joan) Sokol of Ocala, FL, Karen Ewart (Mark Buchheister) of Fort Collins, CO, Christopher Sokol of Vallejo, CA, Mark (Teri Ottati) Sokol of Scotia; eight grandchildren, Rachael (August Moore) Maurer, Rudi Andrew Sokol, Amber Sokol, Michelle (Chris) Nail, Christopher Ewart, Melissa Sokol, Joseph and Lee Sokol; two great-grandchildren, Lily and Nicholas Jerome; three nephews, Geoffrey (Louise) Wilson, John (Dorothy) Sokol, Fred (Janet) Bogdon. She was predeceased by two siblings, John Bogdon and Sofia Wilson. Funeral service, Friday morning, October 7th at 10:30 a.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady. Calling hours, Thursday, October 6th, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment at St. Cyril's Cemetery, Rotterdam.
