Obituary of Lawrence Donati

Schenectady - Lawrence P. Donati, 92, passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017. Lawrence (Larry) was born in Johnstown, NY, the son of the late Santi and Lucia Donati. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during WW II as a tank driver in the European Theatre. In his early career, Larry was manager of the Empire Market/ Grand Union in Schenectady and later was the owner of Pollock's Market in Waterford for over 25 years. He was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Larry was an active member of the Lions Club and of the VFW Post #357, where he cooked meals for many of their fundraisers. Larry and his wife, Margaret, were happily married for over 70 years. They loved to garden and travel. He was a good and generous friend to many, and a loving husband and father to his family. In addition to his wife, Margaret (Brownell) Donati; he is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Donati (Carol Clas); daughter-in-law, Donna Donati; two grandchildren, Heather Archer and Jeremiah Donati; great-grandchildren, Tony, Davis, Colette and Naomi; and two nieces. He was predeceased by his son, Richard Donati. Calling hours will be Monday, 2 to 5 p.m. at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church, 1255 Pleasant St., Schenectady, Tuesday, 9 a.m. Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Mausoleum, Niskayuna.
