Obituary of Mary Markle

North Canton, OH, formally of Schenectady, NY- Mary Irene Markle, known to most people as Irene Markle, passed away on February 20, 2017 of natural causes, at Altercare of Alliance in Alliance, Ohio. Irene, 85, was born in Niskayuna, NY, to the late Mary (Pata) LaFond and Joseph Irene LaFond, and lived in various parts of NY State for most of her life. She spent the majority of her life cooking and feeding others. Her pride and joy was her restaurant, Spruce Mountain Pizzeria, located just outside of Lake George, NY. Irene's other passions included reading, animals, doing puzzles, and doing outdoor projects. She was not the bake cookies and knit kind of person. She was the, "here's your eggs, bacon, sausage, home fries, hash and toast — now where's that tree you need cut down?" kind of person. Irene is survived by her 3 sons, James Markle (Cynthia) of Schenectady, William Markle (Marianne) of Schenectady, and Daniel Markle (Phyllis) of N. Canton, OH; her sisters Connie Monroe (James) and Betty Prian; her grandchildren Todd Markle, Melissa Snitzer, Aimee Markle, Laura Ferrari, William Markle Jr., Matthew Markle, and Christopher Markle; she also had 5 great grandchildren and 9 nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her ex husband Albert Markle, her brother Paul "Sonny" LaFond, and her partner in business and life, Barbara LaPorte. Services will be held on Saturday at 10:30 AM at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street in Schenectady. The family will receive relatives and friends from 9 to 10:30 am prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna. In lieu of flowers, Irene requested that donations be made in her name to your local no-kill animal shelter.
