Obituary of William J. Breen
~~William J. Breen, 92, of Queen Philomena Blvd., formerly of Elder St., died Friday, May 26, 2017, at St. Peter's Hospice Inn. Bill was born in Watervliet, the son of Thomas and Margaret Breen. He was a U S Navy veteran, serving in World War II, in the Pacific Theatre. He was a City of Schenectady Firefighter for 21 years, retiring in 1974 and had been a communicant of St. Paul the Apostle Church. Bill was predeceased by his wife, Joan Cummings Breen, they married in 1952, she died in 2003. He is survived by three children, William (Kathy) Breen,Jr. of Calabash, NC, Michael (Marie) Breen of Colonie and Mary (Jim) Gavin of Schenectady; two sisters, Dorothy Breen of Schenectady and Patricia Kiel of Boca Raton, FL; six grandchildren, Rebecca Breen, Kevin and Erin Breen, Kaitlin Gulino, Megan Knapick and Shannon Gavin; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Knapick and Kendall Breen and many nieces and nephews. Bill was predeceased by four siblings, Rhea, James and Thomas Breen and Betty Burns. Funeral service, Friday morning, 8:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 9 at St. Paul the Apostle Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours, Thursday evening, 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Interment, St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. Memorial contributions may be made to the Schenectady Firefighter's Cancer Fund, 1242 Fourth Ave., Schenectady, NY 12303
