Sgt. William E. Kaufman, 72, of Schenectady, NY, passed away on June, 16, 2017 at the Albany Stratton VA Medical Center. Sgt. Kaufman passed away after a long illness which he fought bravely. Sgt. Kaufman was born in Buffalo, NY, the only son of the late Mary E. and George E. Kaufman. Sgt. Kaufman served in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from August 1964 to August 1967 after being honorably discharged Sgt. Kaufman took a break from serving his country. In April 1987 Sgt. Kaufman re-enlisted and served with the Army until he retired in January 2004. Sgt. Kaufman had a big heart and he loved his "adopted" family whom he spent his time with; he was especially fond to Joshua and Kevin Taylor, whom he loved watching grow up and being there for them. Sgt. Kaufman loved the New York Yankees and was always ready to talk about a game he had seen. Prior to becoming ill, Sgt. Kaufman enjoy visiting the casino and going to Bingo with his friend Shirley Brundege. Those that loved Sgt. Kaufman called him Grumpy, not for his personality, for his love of the character Grumpy. Sgt. Kaufman will be laid to rest next to his beloved mother in a grave site ceremony on Thursday, June 22, 2017 at 9 a.m. at Memory Gardens located at 983 Watervliet Shaker Rd., Colonie, NY.
