Obituary of John A. Daversa, Jr.

Schenectady - John A. Daversa Jr., 84, of Morningside Ave., died Friday, June 23, 2017, surrounded by his devoted family. John was born in Schenectady, the son of John and Olympia Daversa Sr. To his large family he was known as 'Junior', being one of eight children. He was a graduate of Nott Terrace High School and was a U S Army veteran of the Korean War. He had worked for the City of Schenectady for many years and retired from Clifton Management, formerly Rosen and Michaels Group. He enjoyed the outdoors, was an avid Yankee fan, loved family activities. Through the years devoted to his beloved pets and a communicant of St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church, Union St., Niskayuna. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Joan Calantone, they married in 1956. John was the father of three children, the late Denise Daversa, Darlene Daversa of Schenectady and Dean (Laurie) Daversa of Rexford; one sister, Jenny (Angelo) Gardino of Schenectady; sisters-in-law, Mary Daversa and Diane Calantone; four grandchildren, Tiara (Nick) Hurd, Nick Daversa, Kimberly and Andrew Lynch; one great-grandson, Elijah Hurd; and many nieces and nephews. 'Junior' was predeceased by brothers and sisters, Mario Daversa, Mary Marinucci, Lillian DePaula, Alex Daversa, Rose Daversa, Julie Taber; and brother-in-law, Joseph Calantone. Funeral service, Wednesday morning, 9:15 a.m. from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, and 10 a.m. at St. Kateri Tekakwitha Church (2216 Rosa Rd., Schenectady), where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours, Tuesday evening, 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment, Most Holy Cemetery, Niskayuna, with military honors.
