"Rotterdam – Robert "Bob" D. Cameron, 94, of Rotterdam passed away peacefully at Ellis Hospital on Monday, October 29, 2017 with his beloved wife Mary by his side.
Bob was born September 17, 1923 to Daniel and Mabel Cameron of Stanton Street, Rotterdam. Bob joined the U.S. Army in 1941 and was discharged in 1945. On November 11, 1944, Bob was awarded the Bronze Star for meritorious service in action, making up a bazooka which attacked an enemy Mark V tank. In 1946, he went to work for the General Electric company, in Schenectady, retiring 39 years later. During that time, Bob also tended bar at Richter's Tavern on Sacandaga Lake.
Bob is predeceased by his parents as well as his brothers Reed and David Cameron and his sister Ruth Dean.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 35 years, Mary Cameron and her loving children Dawn McGinnis (Tom) and Darrin Skoda (René); grandchildren, Katelyn Skoda, Darrin John Skoda, Bailee McGinnis, Kristy Zorda (Nick), Keri Badger, Nicole Robles and Tommy McGinnis (Jen); nephews Ed Dean (Robin), David Cameron, Kenny Cameron, Ernest Cameron and niece Jessie Cameron. He is also survived by 9 great-grandchildren.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 9 am with a service at 10 am at Daly's Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Batchellerville Cemetery in Edinburg, NY immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Edinburg Emergency Squad, PO Box 904, Northville, NY 12134 or the Edinburg Fire Department, 7 North Shore Road, Edinburg, NY 12134 in Bob's memory.
