Schenectady, NY – Bernard A. Niedhammer, 90, passed away Wednesday November 8, 2017.
Bernard was born in Detroit, MI the son of the late Edwin and Olive (Zukowski) Niedhammer. He was educated in the Schenectady School System, proudly served in the US Navy during WW II and worked at GE for 44 years as a Turbine Assembler, retiring in 1987. Bernard enjoyed tinkering with his tools for various projects around the house. He loved photography and time spent on the Great Sacandaga Reservoir and will be remembered as a loving husband, father and grandfather who was quiet with a great sense of humor. In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his wife Helen Niedhammer.
Bernard is survived by his children Michael (Pamela) Niedhammer and Maureen (Michael) Tompkins, step-children Charles (Audrey) Barnes and Shirley Jean Smith, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brothers Edwin Niedhammer and Robert (Lillian) Niedhammer, sister Margaret Dickey and nieces and nephews.
The funeral service will be held Saturday 11:00 am at Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady, NY. A calling hour will precede the service from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave., Scotia, NY 12302 or a charity of one's choice.
