NISKAYUNA - Johann Milanese Tardi passed away at home on Monday, December 4, 2017. She was born in Troy to parents, Clarence Milanese and Sadie Del Vecchio. She was the second youngest child of four siblings, Connie, Carm, and the youngest of the family, John. From her birth until her passing, Johann's life revolved around family. As an adolescent, she spent her youth living in Troy with her family, helping maintain the family businesses. As a young woman, the family moved to the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute vicinity and regularly entertained young engineers. At one of those dinners, Johann met the man with whom she would spend over 60 years of marriage. The young suitor was named Joe Tardi, a brilliant young engineering student from Brooklyn Tech. Joe took interest in Johann, and soon they began going on dates, seeing each other with increasing regularity. However, World War II was arriving and Joe, a chief petty officer, was on his way to serve on an aircraft carrier for the Navy in Rhode Island. Despite the War and distance, the courtship flourished. With the end of the war, Joe returned to Troy and a marriage soon followed. They bought a house in Lansingburgh and soon began a family, having two children, Joe and Johanne. Johann's new life with Joe was completely centered on their family. Together they raised their two children in a house on 7th Avenue. Life was always an adventure with the family at the core. Time was always made for family activities. Johann cooked and fussed over the family, and made every attempt to create an atmosphere of love. The children grew to become successful professionals. Johanne became a health care marketing consultant throughout the east coast and is now a full time professional artist. Joe built a marketing company with both regional and national clients. Family ties remained strong. Joe retired, having been a professional engineer, and joined his son's marketing firm as CFO. Johann likewise joined the firm as receptionist. Being a true people person, she thrived on the social contact that the business forged. Everyone loved her. Johann had a warm smile and a light, almost childlike spirit, which endeared her to everyone. She made everything wonderful. The other central focus of Johann's life was her faith. As a devout Catholic, she was never seen without a cross around her neck. She prayed the rosary and regularly attended church with her husband. She prayed to St. Anthony of Padua, the patron saint for the recovery of lost items, and strongly believed in his intercession. Johann is survived by her loving family, her daughter, Johanne (husband, Dr. Richard) Mangi; son, Joe; and grandson, Joseph. Funeral service, Saturday at 9 a.m. in St. John the Evangelist Church, 806 Union St. Schenectady, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. Entombment in St. Mary's Cemetery, Troy. Memorial contributions may be made to Pet Connection C/O Steve Caporizzo WTEN, 341 Northern Blvd., Albany, NY, 12204.
