Schenectady - Pauline Mae" Polly" Schmidt, 88, of Schenectady, passed away suddenly into the arms of the Lord on January 18, 2018 at home.
Pauline was the youngest of six born in Galway to Thomas and Paraska Sokach. She attended Saratoga High School. After graduating she went to work for the Quinn Law Firm for a number of years, only leaving to start a family. After raising her children she returned to work for Dr. Richard Hoskinson. Upon retirement she continued to work for Price Chopper samples, only leaving due to illness. Pauline adored everyone she met at the store. She loved animals, enjoyed working in her garden and boating on the Great Sacandaga Lake with her late husband.
Pauline is survived by her daughter, Sharon (Harry) Borggreen of Schenectady and her son, Jay (Renee) of Schenectady as well as her grandchildren Harry and Anna, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband, Joseph, and also her siblings: Mary, Anne, John, Eve and Helen.
Memorial donations may be made to: Animal Protective Foundation, 53 Maple Ave Scotia, NY12302 or Alzheimer's Association. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to Dr. Asim Yousuf, Dr. George Vassolas, and Dr. Brian McDonald for the great care they gave over the last few years, and also to the men and women of the Schenectady County UCC and Schenectady Fire Department for their service. Also, thank you to the staff at Ellis Hospital ER for their efforts.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday 9:00 am at St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Union St.,(formerly, St. Helens). A calling hour will precede the Mass from 8:00 to 9:00 am at the church. Entombment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
