Schenectady - George Dewey Armitage, Jr died at Ellis Hospital on April 26, 2018 at the age of 91. He was born on November 5, 1926, the son of George Dewey Armitage, Sr and Mildred Armitage. He graduated from Saratoga High School in 1942 and worked on the family farm in Galway for several years before going to work for Gloversville National Bank in 1947. He worked for the bank for 20 years, rising to the position of Loan Officer. During the last several years at the bank, he began serving in the ministry as a Lay Pastor for the South Wilton Methodist Church. Upon leaving the bank in 1967, be began serving in the full-time ministry at the Methodist churches in Schuyler Falls, Morrisonville, and Peasleeville, NY. During this period, he earned an Associate's Degree from Clinton Community College. He was later transferred to the Methodist Church in Esperance and then to the church in Johnsonville, from which he retired. He came out of retirement to serve the churches in Fort Ann and West Fort Ann for several years before permanently retiring. Survivors include Richard Armitage (Wanda) of Glens Falls, David (Carol) of Morrisonville, Gary (Bryan) of Washington State, and Lynnae (Sheri) of Schenectady, his special grandson, who he considered a son, Gary of Schenectady, grandchildren Jennifer, Steven, and Tracy, several step-grandchildren, and several great grandchildren and step-great grandchildren, and a special friend Paula Carr, who he has known through the Troy Conference of the Methodist Church for many years. Viewing will be at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., on Tuesday, May 1 from 12- 1 p.m., followed by a service at 1pm. Interment private.
