Obituary of Shirley Daly

SCHENECTADY- Shirley E. Daly, 78, died Saturday morning, August 14, 2010, at Ellis Hospital, after a short illness. Shirley was born in Schenectady on October 12, 1931, a daughter of the late John and Anna Osborn. She was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, where she excelled in basketball and volleyball. At one time Shirley was employed by the General Electric Company in Schenectady. Through the years she enjoyed participating in many sports, with her friends, including tennis, skiing, golf, swimming, and most especially, bowling. Shirley was recognized in the Schenectady bowling community for her skills and participation in several leagues. Above all, she enjoyed the tournaments and travel time with the "Happy Wanderers" team. Shirley was a lifetime member of St. Elizabeth's Auxiliary #93 of the Knights of St. John, where she always treasured time spent with her husband Dick and their longtime friends at "The Club". The Daly family will lovingly remember all the very special years they enjoyed together, especially the warm, sunny beach days at Sacandaga Lake and their winter vacations in Palm Beach Shores, Florida. In addition to being remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she was a faithful communicant of St. Luke's Church. Survivors include her high school sweetheart and husband of 57 years, Richard E. Daly; her daughter, whom she cherished, Susan E. Daly; and a granddaughter who made her truly proud, Kerry E. Boyd; three nieces, Pat Schlamowitz, Audrey Matern, and Linda Niemiec and her husband Lenny; great nieces and great nephews; a dear cousin; and a wealth of wonderful friends. Shirley was predeceased by her loving sister, Anna Mary Hotaling. A Mass of Christian Burial will be con-celebrated Thursday morning at 9 A.M. at St. Luke's Church, State Street, Schenectady. Interment will follow in the Sarto Daly family plot at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Schenectady. Relatives and friends are invited to join the family for calling hours on Wednesday from 2 to 8 P.M. at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McClellan Street, Schenectady. It has been kindly requested that the members of St. Elizabeth's Auxiliary gather at Daly Funeral Home, Wednesday evening at 7 P.M.
