Obituary of Glen F. Sauter

Please share a memory of Glen to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Sauter, Glen F.

Glenville – Glen F. Suater, 85, died Thursday May 31, 2018 at Ellis Hospital.

Born in Schenectady, the son of Kenneth and Mary ((Zimolka) Sauter. 1933 Glen attended and graduated Mont Pleasant High School. Subsequent to graduation Glen entered the U.S. Army, serving in Korea. Upon returning home he was employed at G.F. Sauter & Son electrical contracting company, eventually becoming a union electrician working out of IBEW local 166.

While holding a second job as an ambulance attendant Glen met Eleanor R. Quigley at Samaritan Hospital in Troy. They were married in 1966 and spent 62 years as husband and wife raising their son Jeffrey and daughter Laureen.

During his time as an electrician he worked on many large local projects including  the Gilboa Pumped Storage Project, and the Gore Mountain Ski Area. Towards the end of his career he specialized in nuclear quality control for the Trident Submarine Training Center in West Milton.

Glen continued to work as an ambulance attendant and was one of the original employees of Mohawk Ambulance and was one of the first 300 certified EMT’s in New York State.  In the latter stages of his EMS career his duties almost exclusively entailed the transport of Albany Medical Centers Neo-Natal team (NICU) whose mission was to stabilize the condition of and save the lives of premature babies. This brought him great satisfaction.  He was intensely proud of his son’s service in law enforcement and his daughter’s medical career. Jeff and Barbara presented him with two grandsons, Karl and Glen II and they became his life’s primary focus. Glen’s joy in life was being of use and value to his family and friends and he continually sought to make their lives easier and better in any way he could. As his health declined he often claimed to be kept alive through the diligent and dutiful care of his wife Eleanor and the enjoyment of and immersion in the lives of his grandsons.

Glen is survived by his beloved wife Eleanor (Quigley) Sauter, devoted children Jeffrey (Barbara) Sauter and Laurie Sauter and his cherished grandchildren Karl and Glen Sauter.

The family would like to convey their gratitude and appreciation to the nurses and techs of A-6 of Ellis Hospital whose expertise, compassion and professional gifts were of enormous comfort in the end. Additionally, the efforts of Dr. Sonali Patel of Ellis Hospital are also worthy of special recognition here.
