Schenectady - Mary Emmet Foster of Kingsway Village, passed away peacefully there on Friday, June 29, 2018. Mary was born October 9, 1926 in Johnsonville, NY at the home of her grandparents. Her parents were the late William C. Emmet and Gertrude Gibbs Emmet. Mary was predeceased by her husband of 59 years, William E. Foster, and her brothers, Robert A. Emmet and John G. Emmet. Mary graduated from Walter A. Woods High School in Hoosick Falls, NY in June 1944. She graduated from New York State College for Teachers in 1948. Upon graduation, she was a member of the faculty at Burnt Hills - Ballston Lake Central School, teaching English and Math. After 3 years, she left to raise her family. She relocated with her husband to Syracuse, Pittsfield, Utica, Erie, PA, and Niskayuna. Mary enjoyed volunteer work. In Utica, she was president of St. Joseph's Nursing Home Guild for 2 years. She volunteered at the Erie Center for the Blind as a reader for the visually impaired. She was a reader for 15 years for the RISE program at WMHT. She also enjoyed reading and bridge throughout her life. Mary was a devoted and loving mother and is survived by her and Bill's five sons and their spouses. Timothy and Ellen of Sarasota, FL, Mark and Donnae of Indianapolis, IN, Frank and Christine of Whitesboro, NY, Robert and Kathryn of Maineville, OH, and Michael and Naiyre of Kinnelon, NJ. Also surviving are nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Joshua, James, William, Eric, Amanda, Michael, Mary, Anna, Patrick, Izayah and Ivalyss Foster. Also surviving are six nieces and nephews. Funeral service Saturday morning, 11:00 at the Daly Funeral Home, 242 McCellan St., Schenectady, NY 12304. Internment is at St. John's Cemetery in Schaghticoke, NY. A calling Hour will precede the service Saturday morning, from 10-11.
