Schenectady - Alice M. Gay, 87, died on Sunday, August 5, 2018 at the Kingsway Arms Nursing Center.
Alice was born in Schenectady on June 8, 1931, the daughter of Edward and Lulu Eck. She was a graduate of Draper High School and Mildred Elley. She worked for several years as a draftsman in the motor department of General Electric. She later worked as an office manager for Dr. Francisco Ophthalmology office in Glenville.
Alice was devoted to her husband of 55 years, Mitchell Gay, who died on September 11, 2017. Together they enjoyed square dancing, in which they achieved the challenging level of C3. They traveled all over the United States and Canada, participating in square dancing competitions. She was an animal lover, especially birds and dogs and was adept at artistic craft projects, sewing and baking. She enjoyed taking care of her home and flower garden. She also had great enthusiasm for her favorite baseball team, the Yankees, whose games she never missed.
Alice is survived by three step-sons, Glenn (Debbie), Joseph Gay and Edwin (Marta Ziielyk) Gay; three step-grandsons Michael, Peter and David; and many step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral service, Friday afternoon, 12:30 at Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady. A calling hour will be held from 11:30 to 12:30 at the funeral home. Interment, Evergreen Memorial Park, Colonie. Memorial contributions may be made to City Mission of Schenectady, 425 Hamilton St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
