Robert A. Damberg, 87, of the Town of Day, formerly of Washington Road, Scotia, died Friday, November 18, 2011, at the Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Bob was born in Schenectady, the son of Frederick and Marguerite Molloy Damberg. He was a graduate of Mont Pleasant High School, Syracuse University and earned his master's degree from Oswego and certified administration from Albany State Teacher's College. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving during World War II. Bob taught school for the Schenectady public schools at Yates School for 15 years and was the principal at Yates and Paige School, retiring in 1984 after 30 years of service. He was a member of the Kral Club, the Schenectady Supervisory Association, a communicant of St. Joseph's Church, Scotia and Holy Mother and Child Church in Corinth. Bob enjoyed his summers on The Great Sacandaga Lake and winters in New Smyrna Beach, FL. Bob is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Murphy. He is also survived by four children, Patrick (Suzanne) Damberg of Dowington, PA, twins, Kathy (Mark) Trudeau of Clifton Park, Karen (James) Sroczynski and Margaret Barry, both of Scotia; seven grandchildren, Chelsea, Lindsey, Kevin, Alicia, Sean, Adam and Carlee; four great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews and lifelong friend `brother,' Anthony Coppola. He was predeceased by his brother, Carl Damberg and lifelong friend `brother,' Dominic DeFilippo. Funeral Saturday morning 8:15 from the Daly Funeral Home, Inc., 242 McClellan St., Schenectady and 9 a.m. at St. Joseph's Church (First St., Scotia) where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Calling hours Friday afternoon 4 to 8 in the evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna, with military honors. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's Church, 45 MacArthur St., Scotia, NY 12302, Holy Mother and Child Church, 407 Palmer Ave., Corinth, NY 12822 or Bert Fish Medical Center, 401 Palmetto St., New Smyrna Beach, FL 32168.
